Achill Island is located on the Atlantic west coast of Ireland, in County Mayo. Road access to Achill Island is via a short bridge at Achill Sound. Travel directions to Achill Island, Ireland

To Achill Island from Dublin (277 km)
Dublin airport is to the north of the city. Dublin seaport is centrally located and Dun Laoghaire ferryport is to the south of Dublin. In all cases head for the M50 following signs for the WEST. From the M50 take the exit for the N4 and the west of Ireland. Follow the N4 past Mullingar and as far as Longford. At Longford take the N5 heading west through Strokestown and Charlestown, and finally terminating at Castlebar. From Castlebar follow signs for Achill on the R311, picking up the N59 towards Achill at Newport. Leave the N59 immediately after the village of Mulranny, following the signs for Achill (R319).

To Achill Island from Shannon Airport (207 km)
From the airport take the N19 for five miles, turning left (northbound) at the junction with the N18, heading towards Ennis. Continue on the N18 through Gort towards Galway. At Oranmore take the N64 towards Tuam, picking up the northbound N17 at Claregalway. Continue on the N17 through Tuam and to Claremorris. At Claremorris follow the signs to Castlebar on the N60. From Castlebar follow signs for Achill on the R311, picking up the N59 towards Achill at Newport. Leave the N59 immediately after the village of Mulranny, following the signs for Achill (R319).

To Achill Island from Rosslare (367 km)
From Rosslare ferryport take the N25 towards Wexford, continuing on the N25 through New Ross and towards Waterford. Just outside Waterford follow the signs for Clonmel, Tipperary and Limerick on the N24. From Limerick take the N18 towards Ennis and Galway and then follow the instructions given above from Shannon Airport.

To Achill Island from Cork (316 km)
From Cork take the N20 heading north through Mallow and on to Limerick. From Limerick take the N18 towards Ennis and Galway and then follow the instructions given above from Shannon Airport.

To Achill Island from Belfast / Larne
Route 1 (better roads)(435 km): Take the main A1 north-south motorway from Belfast to Dublin, then follow the instructions from Dublin given above.
Route 2 (342 km): From Larne take the A57 to Nutts Corner, then follow the A26 to Junction 9 of the M1 near Moira. From Belfast International Airport take the A26 to Junction 9 of the M1. From Belfast take the A3 at Lisburn as far as Junction 9 of the M1 near Moira. From Junction 9 take the M1 heading for Enniskillen, continuing on the A4 through Ballygawley, Clougher, Fivemiletown and finally Enniskillen. Continue on the A4 to Belcoo and on to Sligo in the Irish Republic (N16). From Sligo take the N17 south to Charlestown and then the N5 to Castlebar. From Castlebar follow signs for Achill on the R311, picking up the N59 towards Achill at Newport. Leave the N59 immediately after the village of Mulranny, following the signs for Achill (R319).

To Achill Island from Knock Airport (93 km)
From Knock Airport take the N17 northwards to Charlestown then follow the N5 to Castlebar, passing through Bohola. From Castlebar follow signs for Achill on the R311, picking up the N59 towards Achill at Newport. Leave the N59 immediately after the village of Mulranny, following the signs for Achill (R319).
