Achill Island, County Mayo, IrelandThis view of the western part of Achill Island was taken from Minaun heights (446m). In the foreground, to the right, is Trawmore Strand, an EU Blue Flag beach that is popular with surfers, windsurfers and swimmers. Trawmore Strand is over 3km long and stretches to the village of Keel at its western end. The straggle of white-washed buildings visible in this picture lead from Keel to Dooagh, beyond which can be seen the slopes of Croahaun mountain (668m). Just visible in the top left of Achill Island in this picture is the beach at Keem Bay, nestled under the cliffs of Benmore which look out across the Atlantic towards North America.
